Using locally collected natural materials as well as handmade paper and natural threads, participants will explore ways of creating small-scale 3-dimensional forms using textile techniques such as sewing, embroidery, coiling etc. These forms can be utilitarian and/or sculptural.
This workshop will allow participants to work with their own aesthetics and apply the materials that they feel most comfortable with. Materials are easily found throughout the NL province and Canada and the cost is in the labour of harvesting and processing. When materials are sustainably harvested there is minimal environmental impact and studios are eligible for ‘green’ through Tourism certifying bodies as no harmful materials are used; those that are used can be completely and safely returned to the earth. These types of products are highly sought after by environmental tourists.
Note participants are required to bring:
Note taking materials | Large scissors (they shouldn’t be the best scissors) | Pliers | Utility knife | Needle threader if they feel they need one | Old towel | Old Dishcloth | Something to take their samples home with them.
